The Ottawa Senators now face a 3-0 deficit in their first round series with Toronto, but after Brady Tkachuk name dropped the Boston Red Sox, the belief remains.
After their 3-2 overtime win on Thursday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves on the verge of a first-round sweep as they are now up 3-0 on the Ottawa Senators in the Battle of Ontario.
While most have all but written off the Senators given their lack of offensive production and their lack of adapting to the Stanley Cup Playoffs environment, captain Brady Tkachuk hasn't yet.
Despite not contributing much to the series, Tkachuk was seen after the devastating Game 3 defeat with the media, and when he was answering a question, he invoked the name of the Boston Red Sox, the first team in MLB history to come from a 3-0 deficit to claim victory in the post-season.
Back in 2004, they too did it against their fiercest rival in the New York Yankees, with their team personifying the 'one game at a time mentality', accomplishing a feat that has not happened often, with only three NHL teams overcoming a 3-0 deficit to win their series in post-season history.
While the Senators have scored just six goals across the three games in this series, they've managed to push the last two to overtime, and with the team finally getting their footing underneath them, there's no reason why they can't take a game or two in this series.
Historically speaking, in the first-round if a team were to blow a 3-0 lead, the Maple Leafs would be a prime candidate given their recent lack of first-round success, but with the way things are going right now, it would take a minor miracle for the Senators to get back into this series.
