The Real Reason Chris Kreider Was Traded to Anaheim Revealed by New Ducks Teammate
Chris Kreider was the longest tenured Ranger before his trade to the Ducks, and now new teammate Ryan Strome has revealed how the trade went down.
After over a decade with the New York Rangers, Chris Kreider's tenure came to an end this off-season, with the long-time star joining former captain Jacob Trouba with the Anaheim Ducks in a surprise trade.
This came after months of speculation about the future of the former 40-goal scorer, with few expecting him to end up in Anaheim, a team that has been building a solid young core.
Now, thanks to former Rangers teammate and new Ducks teammate Ryan Strome, we know it was Kreider that steered the ship on a trade to Anaheim, unveiling what he knows behind the trade that reunited the veterans.

As much as I feel like he needed a bit of a fresh start and a new challenge, I also think it was probably not the easiest thing to go. When you're dealing with a player of that pedigree and I think (with) the way some of the other exits of the Rangers' veterans in the previous years have gone, they wanted to let Chris handle it the way he wanted to handle it. I think he kind of steered the ship a little bit."

This move makes more sense now on Kreider's part, as he joins a young, up-and-coming team with several former teammates, and getting as far away from New York as he can was also a beneficial part of the deal for the veteran.
Ultimately, it was simply time for Kreider and the Rangers to move on, and Kreider pushing the deal allowed he and the team to avoid months of speculation, and given what talent these young Ducks have with the veterans that have joined the squad in the last year, they could be a dark horse in the Western Conference.
