Gabe Perreault is making his NHL debut at Madison Square Garden, but thus far it's been a day to remember, especially after this shocking mistake leading to a goal.
Back in the 2023 NHL Draft, the New York Rangers used the 23rd overall pick on Boston College's Gabe Perreault, and less than 24 months later, he's taking his place in the lineup.
The 19-year old enters the NHL on the back of a stellar two-years with the Eagles, and at Madison Square Garden, he made his debut on Wednesday night against the Minnesota Wild, with plenty of former teammates in attendance.
Those same teammates were in attendance for
Ryan Leonard's debut on Tuesday night against the Boston Bruins, and while he made a stellar first impression, things didn't go quite as well for Perreault.
After the game moved to 1-1, the Minnesota Wild scored a seemingly harmless goal to give them a 2-1 lead, but upon replay, it showed that Perreault made a major rookie mistake that could cost this team dearly.
While it was
Brock Faber that's credited with the goal, he had a big help from his opponent, as Perreault was charging out to block the shot, but it was ultimately the tip off his stick that saw the puck beat star goaltender
Igor Shesterkin.
On the back of 108 points in 73 game in two seasons at BC, it's easy to see why fans are so excited about Perreault and his future, and while he will definitely get past this mistake and have some success in the NHL, it's safe to say that this may not be the first memory from his NHL career that he'll want to remember.
