Noah Dobson has been expected to be traded since the team landed the No. 1 pick in the NHL Draft, and after so much speculation, he's finally on the move.
The New York Islanders have already made some big changes this summer, bringing in new GM Mathieu Darche to replace Lou Lamoriello, and with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, they're likely to select blue liner
Matthew Schaefer.
That has seemingly left Noah Dobson as expendable, especially with the idea that he is looking for a massive new extension, which Cam Robinson reveals could be just under $10 million per year as he notes that Montreal and Columbus are the favourites to land the talented star.
Now, after weeks of speculation and the race heating up in the past few days, Dobson has officially been traded to an Eastern Conference rival in a deal that was some time in the making as New York look to bring in a new core under Darche's leadership.
On top of the trade to Montreal, Elliotte Friedman has now reported that Dobson has inked an extension with the team for $9.5 million per year over an eight-year contract.
However, they believe Schaefer's future can mitigate the loss of Dobson, and at 25-years of age, the team have officially moved on from one of the most promising defenseman in the entire NHL.
