Canadian Team Makes Massive Trade Offer for Top Islanders Forward
NHL insider David Pagnotta revealed last night that one Canadian team is prepared to make a serious offer for Islanders veteran Brock Nelson.
He has 295 career goals and 574 points, including 20 tallies and 43 points this season.
Sadly though, the 33-year-old is on an expiring contract and could very well be on his way out before Friday's trade deadline.
Last night, he was visibly emotional after the Islander's win over the Winnipeg Jets in his post-game interview, an indication that he knows what's coming.
NHL insiders have been reporting on Nelson's status with the team as the trade deadline approaches.
That being said, we do know what the return in such a trade could look like thanks to the reporting of David Pagnotta.
Last night, Pagnotta revealed that the Winnipeg Jets are willing to give up at least a 1st round draft pick for the veteran forward.
Based on the way he phrased it, it sounds like the pick would just be one asset in a larger offer as well, so perhaps it would also include a roster player or a prospect.
The Islanders could certainly use prospects as their pool is currently one of the weaker around the league.
Furthermore, the Islanders are not particularly close to being Stanley Cup contenders, so they could be in a tough position in the coming years.
Adding young players and prospects would certainly be a good way for the team to get back into a position where they are relevant in the playoffs.
