This summer, the Montreal Canadiens finally traded for Patrik Laine, and despite a down season last year due to many off-ice issues, Laine comes to Montreal at 26-years of age and finally ready to fulfil his potential. However, he has been bombarded with criticism from the moment he arrived in Montreal, with former NHLer Mike Commodore singling him out for the attire he wore during his introductory day to the Canadiens organization.
Sure, Laine didn't go with traditional attire to be introduced to an NHL team's fanbase, but this is who he has always been, as Laine has always dressed the way he would like to and what makes him comfortable, but Commodore didn't stop there.
Sure, with the NHL's dress policy upon arrival at games, many could have expected to see a player show up in a suit and tie or even just dress pants and a dress shirt, but the hockey culture is changing, and that allowed Laine to be confident in arriving with whatever he liked.
This criticism comes from a player who himself had a unique look on the ice throughout his career, and while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, this just wasn't necessary, and even if you're against what Laine wore, it just isn't worth saying out loud.
