Patrik Laine has cooled down after a red-hot start in Montreal, and now, a member of the media has been called out for piling on the veteran forward.
After stints in Winnipeg and Columbus didn't work out for star forward Patrik Laine, he found his way to Montreal over the summer, and after returning from injury, he got off to a blistering hot start with the team.
Unfortunately, despite the team success in recent times, he hasn't quite kept up that pace, with some media members in Montreal calling out the 26-year old forward, who has three points in four games in the month of March.
That person would be Stu Cowan of The Montreal Gazette, who questions whether or not Laine could be a part of the future in Montreal, hypothesizing that he could be a negative on the culture for this organization.
"I think it's possible because it's happened where he was before"
However, there were plenty of other people in the city that cover the team that weren't going to take that, as it appears as though another reporter has now come to Laine's defense, calling out the comments made about him.
Sure, the numbers this season aren't perfect, but with 15 goals and 26 points in 35 games played considering the injury and the issues off the ice that he's dealt with in recent years, he's having a fairly productive season.
Laine's current contract runs out after the 2026/27 season, with the Canadiens set to pay him $8.7 million on the final season of his deal, and while they've likely not made a decision on his future beyond that, there's clearly no issues with him thus far in Montreal, and for a reporter to even suggest that, it's good that he's been called out by other members of the media.
