Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis stirred up controversy with his comments to local reporters, and now one analyst is firing right back at him over his treatment of them.
Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis stirred up some controversy recently when he appeared to berate local reporters over asking him about his lineup decisions.
Do you have any good questions? Ask me good questions. I talked about it the other day. - Martin St. Louis
But now, TVA Sports Canadiens analyst Anthony Martineau is hitting right back at St. Louis, saying that even though tastes are subjective and that he has the right to not like every question, the questions he was being asked weren't out of line and were justified.
The job of a journalist is, among other things, to inform people. Questions are therefore asked with the goal of gathering information. There isn't a single journalist covering the Canadiens who walks into the Bell Centre thinking they're going to try to piss someone off. Asking the coach the identity of the players who will hit the ice 12 hours later isn't an insulting, provocative, or bad question......The coach has the right to not like a question. Tastes are subjective. But the question wasn't bad. It was completely justified. - Anthony Martineau
The job of local reporters is to, as Martineau said, inform the public and the fans of what goes on with their team, and asking about the lineup isn't out of line or an unfair question.
Martin St. Louis Recently Said He'll No Longer Answer Lineup Questions
On Tuesday, St. Louis said that he will not talk about his lineup decisions until it's nearly game-time.
Martin St-Louis says he's not going to disclose his line-up until closer to game time from here on in:
"I feel like we're in playoff mode right now and I think that's very typical of playoffs"
- Via Priyanta Emrith

But even so, St. Louis was out of line with his cold comments to reporters, who were simply doing their jobs.
