Cup champion first-round pick Robby Fabbri signs new professional contract
Robby Fabbri went un-signed this past off-season, but after recent speculation over his future, he's signed an AHL deal with the Charlotte Checkers.
This past NHL off-season saw plenty of movement, but as the 2025/26 campaign began, there were still some very intriguing veterans left to be signed in free agency.
One of those players was Robby Fabbri, who last played in the National Hockey League with the Anaheim Ducks a year ago, and recently, speculation began that he would sign his next professional contract in the coming weeks.
Robby Fabbri finds his new home in professional hockey
While many assumed he would sign a deal with a team in the NHL, that is now officially not the case, as the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League have now officially announced his signing on social media.
The deal is still a professional tryout, so it's not a fully guaranteed contract, but after posting 8 goals and 16 points across 44 games a season ago for the Anaheim Ducks, it's safe to say that he should be more than good enough to earn a spot in the team moving forward.
At 29-years of age, Fabbri brings 442 game of NHL experience to the Checkers this season, and with a Stanley Cup already under his belt, it's safe to say that he'll be a great leader for this team.
It's unclear if Fabbri will get an opportunity with the Florida Panthers, of whom the Checkers are the AHL affiliate, as they would need to give him a full-time deal and upgrade him to make that happen, but if Fabbri can bring his best to the AHL this season, there's no doubting that NHL opportunities await him in the future.
