If they do, the two obvious teams to chase the games best player are the New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs, but now, a third team may be emerging as a genuine landing spot.

That team, according to The Hockey News would be the Detroit Red Wings, a team that have built up a solid core around Moritz Seider and Dylan Larkin, and with some great prospects for the future, McDavid would be a dream fit with this team.
On top of that, they've got plenty of cap space, enough to make him the highest paid player in the National Hockey League if the Oilers captain makes it to free agency in 2026.

The one thing keeping McDavid in Edmonton right now, according to Elliotte Friedman is his obsession with winning a Stanley Cup with the team that drafted him, and it's the thing that makes many believe he'll be back.
"When someone asks me what this is all about, it's two losses in a row in the Finals, and he can't freakin stand it. It makes him crazy."
Ultimately, this obsession is what will bring McDavid back to Edmonton, but if, for some reason he doesn't extend, don't rule out Detroit as a possible landing spot for the superstar forward.
