NHL Reveals Official Verdict on Edmonton Oilers' Evander Kane Investigation
The NHL has reportedly wrapped up the investigation of Evander Kane's placement on Long Term Injured Reserve by the Oilers before the postseason.
There has been much discussion in recent months about the use of Long Term Injured Reserve by NHL teams, during which a player is placed on the list and unavailable to play while their AAV (average annual value) doesn't count against the salary cap.
This has allowed teams like the Vegas Golden Knights and Tampa Bay Lightning to add more players to their team before the first aforementioned player is able to come back.
The Edmonton Oilers were accused of doing so with Evander Kane, but an investigation into the issue has apparently concluded that the franchise did nothing wrong.
Per The Athletic's Michael Russo, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly has cleared the Oilers of any wrongdoing.
Kane missed the entire season before returning for the playoffs. During his absence, the Oilers added both
Trent Frederic and
Jake Walman at the Trade Deadline.
Evander Kane's Trade to the Canucks Ended His Chapter With Edmonton
Kane, who is from Vancouver, will now play against the Oilers several times in the upcoming year. He said that he enjoyed his time with the team, but that
he's excited now to suit up for his hometown club.
It's a good opportunity for me and for my family to play at home. Having the Oilers kind of work with me to go to a place that I wanted to be, and I think would fit well for my family was nice of them, and I am just really excited to be a Canuck.
Kane has 617 points (326G, 291A) in 930 career NHL games.
