Florida writer takes victory lap with criticism over Connor McDavid

The Florida Panthers are on the verge of a clean sweep in the Stanley Cup Finals, and now one writer has taken a victory lap over his criticism of Connor McDavid.
This was one of the most anticipated Stanley Cup Finals in recent memory given the return of the Edmonton Oilers, but after making this stage a year ago, it's safe to say confidence was high in Florida. Before the series began, Florida Panthers writer Greg Cote of the Miami Herald certainly wasn't shy about his criticism, calling out Connor McDavid and even calling the Oilers captain overrated.
«Connor McDavid is overrated. Boom. He puts up big, impressive stats, yes. Fine. But should he really be called 'generational,' called the best player in the sport, when in nine seasons he has yet to lead his team to a Stanley Cup?»
Now, after three games, the veteran writer is doubling down on his take, with the Panthers leading 3-0 in the series, as he has called out not only McDavid but his co-star Leon Draisaitl too.
"Connor McDavid has proved McOverrated (like a wise man once said) and Leon Draisaitl has been Dry-saital, neither scoring a goal in this Final,» he wrote. "Also, Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner has been pretty bad, and defenseman Darnell Nurse has been worse."
The series isn't over however, so he may come to regret these words, but at this point he's looking 100% correct, and given another potential Stanley Cup loss in Canada, he took a shot at the country too.
"The country that invented hockey last won a Stanley Cup in 1993, and that country must be weeping in June yet again.

It's safe to say that the Panthers are thrilled with their performances thus far, and if they finish off the series, it will certainly be very interesting to see what Cote has to say.
