Ex-Oiler Says Contract Talks 'Rubbed Him the Wrong Way', Explains Why He Left the Team
Dylan Holloway was given an offer sheet last summer, and before he left Edmonton for St. Louis, he revealed that the Oilers front office rubbed him the wrong way.
Last off-season, we saw the first offer sheets dished out in quite some time, with the St. Louis Blues handing in not one but two to the Edmonton Oilers, as the team ended up landing both Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.
The decision from Stan Bowman to not match either of them was incredibly surprising, and after Holloway broke out as a potential star of the future, the move became even more confusing.
Alberta Native Opens Up on Leaving Edmonton After Failed Negotiations
Now, Calgary native Dylan Holloway has opened up on the Cam and Strick Podcast, revealing that the Oilers rubbed him the wrong way in negotiations, and as soon as they didn't want him, he was 'all in' on the Blues.
It rubbed me the wrong way how little Edmonton thought of me in our contract negotiations I'm an Alberta boy, I wanted to go back to a team we went so far with but as soon as Edmonton didn't reciprocate that feeling I was all in on St. Louis.
Why St. Louis Felt Like the Right Fit After Oilers' Cold Shoulder
After the Oilers gave the 23-year old the cold shoulder, the Blues felt like the best fit, as they not only gave Holloway a chance to play in the post-season, but they offered him the opportunity to have a significant role.
Most of all however, they made Holloway feel wanted, and he reciprocated that by breaking out in a big season, tallying 26 goals and 63 points in 77 games played.
Ultimately, looking back with hindsight, letting Holloway go was a major mistake for the Oilers, and clearly Holloway knew it during negotiations, and now, they'll need to live with that mistake as they continue to chase a Stanley Cup with their current core group.
