Edmonton Oilers linked to a 30-goal scorer to complete their top line

Whenever a talented player heads to Edmonton, they typically see career years. However, Edmonton has struggled to retain some of their secondary scorers in the quest for the Stanley Cup. However, they could have their best UFA signing since Zach Hyman if things work out for them and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Anthony Mantha.

Mantha has always been a talented player, but he has struggled with health mightily over the course of his career, and it has led to some subpar seasons. However, being the most healthy he has been in a long time, Mantha scored 33 goals and 64 points for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Now he has been linked to the Oilers by insider David Pagnotta.

Canucks reporter Rick Dhaliwal recently confirmed the Canucks' interest in the 2022 4th overall pick.

What Mantha brings is significant offensive upside. At 6'5", he could be slotted on McDavid or Draisaitl's wing and be an offensive force with them. When he is on, he is a premier offensive talent.

However, two years on a deal adds a significant risk with his health. He may stay healthy over the course of that contract, or he may play 25 games over the two years. With injury-prone players, there is always that chance.

The biggest turnoff for NHL teams with Mantha aside from his health is his ability to perform in the playoffs. He has never made it past the first round in his 11-year career, and every time he has, he has gone goal-less.

For a 33-goal scorer, 20 playoff games without a goal is questionable. However, when you play with Connor McDavid, you don't always have to find the goals, McDavid finds them for you.
