Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid reveals he is still processing losing Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals
Connor McDavid has finally broken his silence during the offseason after losing in the Stanley Cup Finals and has spoken about his feelings heading into next season.
The Edmonton Oilers came incredibly close to bringing the Stanley Cup back to the city of Edmonton. After going down 3-0 in the series the Oilers came storming back to force a Game 7 but ultimately fell short. Despite losing captain Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe as the Stanley Cup Finals MVP.
Since losing the Stanley Cup Finals Connor McDavid has not been heard from much. He spoke during the post-game and during locker cleanout day. However, today he finally was given a platform to speak about his offseason and feelings about last season.
Connor McDavid speaks about Stanley Cup Finals loss and moving forward
In an interview with Sportsnet's Mark Spector Connor McDavid was asked about his feelings from last season. He confirmed that the emotions and feelings of losing the Stanley Cup Finals come and go but never completely leave.
It's something that you'll never really get over, the Edmonton Oilers superstar told Sportsnet's Mark Spector on Wednesday. You'll never not feel those emotions when you think about it. But ultimately, time moves on, and you've got to get ready to go again.
While he is still trying to process how last season ended for the Edmonton Oilers that has not stopped Connor McDavid from moving forward for the upcoming season. Connor McDavid confirmed he has changed his training regiment this offseason to be more prepared for opening night.
I went with a little bit of a different strategy this summer, he said. In years past, it's just been very volume-heavy, Very go, go, go. Throw everything at the wall and hope something sticks. That strategy, as well as it's worked for me, I think about the beginning of last year.
I was just very tired and fatigued from a long summer of training and was not feeling very good on the ice. And it translated.
With the NHL season coming soon Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers will have a clean slate to start their climb back up the mountain. With a taste of the Stanley Cup Finals it will be fascinating to see if the Oilers can make their way back again in 2024-25.
