Simon Edvinsson trade talk is heating up in Detroit, and the Flyers are reportedly circling as the Red Wings weigh what they want back.
The Simon Edvinsson situation in Detroit just got a lot more interesting.
The 23-year-old defenseman is still an unsigned restricted free agent, the Red Wings season is already underway, and a team that badly needs help on the back end is now being linked to him.
Elliotte Friedman said on The FAN Hockey Show that the Philadelphia Flyers are one of the teams circling around Edvinsson.
That fits with how Philadelphia has started the year, since the Flyers have been giving up a ton of scoring chances and could use a young blueliner who can log big minutes.

What Detroit wants back
Frank Seravalli reports the Red Wings are more willing to move Edvinsson for prospects, draft picks or young roster players than they would be in a Dylan Larkin trade.
That suggests the two situations are being handled very differently, and it gives suitors a clearer idea of what kind of package might get a conversation started.

Edvinsson was the sixth overall pick in 2021 and posted nine goals and 25 points in 72 games last season.
The contract gap
Money is the sticking point. David Pagnotta reported the Red Wings recently offered about $8.5 million per season over six years, while Edvinsson is believed to be looking for closer to $11 million.
Friedman also reported over the weekend that Edvinsson would prefer a trade at this point.
Interim general manager Shawn Horcoff has said signing Edvinsson remains a priority, but Larkin's trade request is still unresolved as well.
The Flyers have draft capital and prospects to work with.
Whether this ends with a signing in Detroit or a deal with Philadelphia is the question to watch.
