Mikko Rantanen was fined after Game 6, and Glen Gulutzan is left staring at a Dallas problem bigger than one ugly shove.

The $5,000 penalty was the maximum allowed under the CBA for cross-checking Kirill Kaprizov. That part is straightforward.
What matters more is when it landed. Minnesota closed the series in six games, and the Wild did it by pulling Dallas into the kind of emotional mess that wrecks structure late in a playoff round.
Dallas finished the regular season at 50-20-12 with a +52 differential. Minnesota came in at 46-24-12 with a +32 mark, then flipped the series by staying composed when the temperature rose.
That's why this fine lands harder than the dollar amount suggests. Rantanen was brought in to drive offense and control shifts, not hand the Wild one more emotional edge after the whistle.
Kaprizov kept dragging play toward Dallas' end, and the push looked like frustration spilling over once the Stars were chasing the game and the series.
The contact comes high and late, with Kaprizov driven down near the boards as the scrum builds around him.
From another angle, you can see the shove jolt Kaprizov forward while bodies close in and the whole sequence turns chaotic in a hurry.

The fine exposed Dallas, not just Rantanen

Minnesota's win was not only about one play. Quinn Hughes scored 2 goals and 3 points in Game 6, and the Wild moved on for the first time since 2015.
But this incident still says plenty. When a contender loses its discipline at elimination time, that usually points to a team losing its grip on the series itself.
For Dallas, the fine is small. The message attached to it is not.
