Nathan MacKinnon calls out Avalanche teammates after game four loss
Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon called out his teammates last night after their game four loss to the Dallas Stars.
After the game, MacKinnon was asked what the team's confidence level was like after dropping three straight games, including the last two at home. If it weren't for an overtime goal against the flow of play in game one from Miles Wood, this series would already be over. The Avalanche superstar was quite frank in his response, noting that the team is not as confident as they normally are.
Nathan MacKinnon on their confidence level: «It's ok, I guess. We just lost 3 in a row. Not scoring much. Just have to work ourselves out of it.
l wouldn't say it's super high. I mean, it's just natural.
I think when you're not producing and scoring how we usually do - and that starts with us, the top players need to be a lot better.
I think our depth has been really, really good this whole playoff run, so we gotta get going here. We'll give it our all tomorrow night.»
MacKinnon and the rest of Colorado's stars simply have not been good enough in the series against Dallas. In the last three games, MacKinnon, Makar, and Mikko Rantanen have combined for just two points and are a collective -17.
During the past 3 games, the Stars have done an incredible job of shutting the AVs best players.
Cale Makar 0-0-0 -6 TOI 26:29 per game
Nathan MacKinnon 0-1-0 -6 TOI 23:30 per game
Mikko Rantanen 1-0-1 -5 TOI 23:31 per game Fans have noticed that MacKinnon has not been his usual self in this series. He's gone long stretches looking almost invisible, and the results have followed. It is perhaps the most concerning thing about this series for Avs fans, considering MacKinnon's typical level of playoff performance.
Nathan MacKinnon has been held pointless in two of the past three games and has looked disengaged for most of this series, that has nothing to do with Val and everything to do with the Dallas Stars.
Val deserves criticism but be realistic.
Be sure to stay tuned to see how the rest of the series plays out. Colorado's season could come to an end tomorrow night in Dallas is the Stars are able to finish things quickly.
