Pierre LeBrun connects Martin Necas to a trade ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft
New reports are coming in tonight connecting the Carolina Hurricanes to a blockbuster trade sending Martin Necas out of town.
For months now Martin Necas has been on the trade block after requesting a new home. As the NHL Draft approaches NHL insider Pierre LeBrun believes the framework of a trade is coming together involving a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
Sources say that there is one [unknown] team in particular that is pretty close with Carolina on the framework of a deal and that if that trade goes through, it would involve a first-round pick Friday night. - Pierre LeBrun on a potential Martin Necas trade
While Pierre LeBrun did not originally reveal the team that was involved in these discussions he eventually dropped a bomb and revealed who the favorite is at the moment.
Buffalo Sabres become the favorites to land Martin Necas heading into the Draft
Pierre LeBrun confirmed that almost every team has called the Carolina Hurricanes about Martin Necas. He would end up expanding and revealing that the Buffalo Sabres remain heavily interested and are one of the few teams dangling their first-round pick.
The Canes have heard from nearly every team in the NHL on him - I believe the Buffalo Sabres have very serious interest - but it's getting to crunch time if a trade that is going to happen is going to involve a first-round pick Friday as part of the package.
With this in mind look for reports and talks around Martin Necas to heat up significantly over the next 24 hours. If they do watch for the Buffalo Sabres to be at the center of those talks.
