Mikko Rantanen was a member of the Carolina Hurricanes for only a few weeks before being dealt to the Stars, and now his agent is speaking out about what took place.

Mikko Rantanen's tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes came to a close after only a few weeks, as he wouldn't commit to signing a long-term extension with the club and was then traded to the Dallas Stars.
According to Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour, Rantanen told him that there were only 4 teams that he'd be willing to commit to long term and that Carolina wasn't one of them.
But now, Rantanen's agent Andy Scott is pushing back on Brind'Amour's claim by saying such a list never existed.
We've got a ton of respect for Rod Brind'Amour, both as a player and a coach, but in this situation, he's completely misinformed.

Mikko, when he was traded, we were solely focused on Colorado, so there was no list of any kind. In fact, when he arrived there, I met him in the days following and he was keeping a completely open mind about Carolina. He felt it out. It just didn't make sense from more of a hockey standpoint, from a style-of-play standpoint.

Scott then went on to say that Rantanen made up his mind that Carolina wasn't the right fit for him, and that they both assisted the Hurricanes in seeing that they got a hefty haul in return for him.
This is a player that had a right to determine where he was going to play for the next eight years of his career. He gave it a lot of thought. Even at 4 Nations ... after 4 Nations, he had not made up his mind. And, ultimately, he did make up his mind and we helped Carolina out by providing a list of teams at that stage in terms of where he would go. But that is the truth - that's how this unfolded. Anything otherwise is just not the case.

Rantanen had scored 65 points (25G, 40A) with the Avalanche in 49 games, but fell to only 6 points (2G, 4A) in 13 games with the Hurricanes.
Since joining the Stars, Rantanen has already scored twice with an assist in two games.
