Jesperi Kotkaniemi Opens Up After He Thought He Was Traded to the Colorado Avalanche For Mikko Rantanen
Rantanen is obviously a superstar in the League, and both the Canes and the Avs are two of the biggest contenders to win the Stanley Cup.
In a new development, Jesperi Kotkaniemi opened up on how Canes players reacted to the news of the trade, notably sharing multiple interesting details on what happened right before the trade occurred.
He stated in an interview that players were leaving for dinner when rumbles of the trade emerged on social media, but they didn't know who would end up being traded.
His name was even involved in the rumors, making him worry about his future in the Hurricanes' organization.
"We were leaving dinner and things started to come up on social media, like, 'Oh, what's going on?"
"There were a lot of names - my name and other guys' names out there. So we were like, 'What's happening?' No one really knew what was going on."
"I thought I was gone for 13 minutes but I came back."
Then, he talked about how a trade impacts the players' lives, explaining that a lot went through his mind before the final details emerged:
"Those are big things. Everyone has families and houses, apartments wherever they play. So there's a lot of things going through your mind when those things come up."
Finally, he revealed that all players got together for one last time, as they aren't set to play against the Avalanche this season, making it all more hectic:
"We all just got together. It was nice that everyone showed up, and it's nice to say a couple of last words to those guys for a while (because) we don't play (Colorado) anymore this season. So it was a little hectic there."
