The Carolina Hurricanes have made one significant roster change tonight as they face the New York Rangers for game two of the second round. Forward Evgeny Kuznetsov has been replaced by Max Comtois after he took a bad penalty last game.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed moments ago that Comtois would slot into the lineup, replacing Kuznetsov today.

The decision comes after Kuznetsov took a bad penalty in the first period of game one, cross-checking Adam Fox unnecessarily. The Rangers would score on the ensuing powerplay. putting the Canes in a deep deficit that they would not be able to overcome.

ESPN reporter Emily Kaplan confirmed that this is a healthy scratch for Kuznetsov. He is not battling an injury. As such, we can assume that the penalty played a big role in the decision to scratch him tonight.

Evgeny Kuznetsov a healthy scratch for the Hurricanes in Game 2 vs. Rangers, per @emilymkaplan. Took undisciplined penalty that led to PPG in Game 1.
