Sam Gagner, a center with over 1,000 games played, has reportedly signed a PTO with the Carolina Hurricanes going into the 2024/25 NHL season.
Gagner, who spent last season with the Edmonton Oilers and their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, will be entering his 19th NHL season. In 28 games with the Oilers, Gagner had 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points, while also grabbing 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points in 15 games with the Condors.
In 1,043 games played over his 18 NHL seasons, Gagner has put up 197 goals and 332 assists for 529 points while mainly being a bottom 6 center during his time with the Oilers, Detroit Red Wings, Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Carolina Hurricanes, who lost forwards Jake Guentzel, Stefan Noesen, and Teuvo Teravainen in free agency, are looking to add some more depth to a team that has been to at least the second round of the playoffs every year since the 2021/22 season. As well, the Hurricanes have lost forward Jesper Fast for the entire 2024/25 season due to a neck injury sustained in the last game of the 2023/24 season.
