Cami Clune and Lindy Ruff’s Sabres got more than a viral anthem moment. They got a brand turning fan culture into playoff currency.
Buffalo fans didn’t just rescue a pregame ceremony before Game 5. They gave the Sabres a clean identity marker at the exact point casual viewers were starting to notice them.
The microphone cut in and out during O Canada. The crowd at KeyBank Center filled the gap, loud enough that the clip moved beyond hockey circles.
Buffalo’s playoff return was already emotional. Molson Canadian buying fans a round turned the moment into something bigger than a nice arena story.
Clune pushed through the anthem while the building rose up behind her, turning a technical failure into a full-arena response.
Molson’s timing was sharp. The free-beer gesture was announced Friday, with the Sabres in Boston for Game 6 and a chance to close the series.
"With that in mind, Molson Canadian said that it would cover rounds of beer for fans at the following Buffalo-area bars and times 'as a thank you for the anthem moment and for cheering Canadian' on Tuesday night."

Buffalo turned goodwill into pressure
Then Ruff’s team backed up the noise. Buffalo beat the Bruins 4-1 in Game 6 and reached the second round for the first time since 2007.
Fan moments only hold weight when the team gives them somewhere to go.
Buffalo’s next opponent is Montreal. The Sabres open Round 2 against the Canadiens on Wednesday, May 6, at KeyBank Center.
The Sabres also hold home-ice advantage as Atlantic Division champions, while Montreal enters after finishing third with 106 points.
For Ruff, this is the kind of edge coaches can’t draw on a whiteboard. It’s belief, pressure, and a building that already had one playoff moment travel across the sport.
Molson didn’t buy the Sabres goals. It bought into Buffalo’s momentum before the next puck drop.
