The NHL is reportedly getting concerned about the struggles of the Buffalo Sabres, who have now missed the postseason in each of the last 14 years.

The Buffalo Sabres have not appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since April of 2011, which is now 14 years ago.
Buffalo is known as one of the better hockey cities in the NHL, with ratings and non-Sabres ratings consistently near the top of the other 32 cities.
And the fact that they're not able to somehow get themselves into the postseason is allegedly worrying some of the higher ups in the League.
NHL analyst Chris Johnston recently said that there is concern within NHL circles about some of the fan support in a passionate city like Buffalo being eroded by the yearly struggles of the Sabres.
You know, it's a concern at the League level. I think that it's gone on so long where they've been kind of mired in whatever we want to call this as mediocrity, something worse than that. You know, it's not good for the League as a whole, quite honestly, to have a team where the fans have shown over a lot of years.

That's a real hockey city. And you're eroding some of the passion and that interest level....I don't know how to read just this one set of moves in the offseason.

While the Sabres did re-sign Bowen Byram and Ryan McLeod, they didn't make any major additions to the team. Their only notable trade was acquiring Conor Timmins and Isaac Belliveau from the Penguins for Conor Clifton.
They also dealt JJ Peterka to the Utah Mammoth for Michael Kesselring and Josh Doan
