Two teams emerge as trade partners for the desperate Boston Bruins
Both the Anaheim Ducks and Utah Hockey Club have reportedly been linked to the Bruins in trade rumors as Boston's struggle continues.
The Bruins lost to the St. Louis Blues in overtime in their most recent game on Saturday. The team remains right at NHL .500 with an 8-8-3 record.
This is not good enough for this team though and everyone knows it. The Blues are a team that the Bruins need to beat if they want to start building a decent record. It won't be any easy against good teams.
After the game, head coach Jim Montgomery assessed the loss. He noted that the guys ran out of gas after the first period, but could not explain why. He even explained their travel plan which gave them time for ample rest between games.
"We didn't have a lot of juice in the tank. I don't know why we didn't. Yesterday, we flew home, we stayed in Dallas so we would have proper sleep to enable us to have legs for today. We had legs in the first and kind of fell off after that."
Now it is starting to feel like the team's management is truly getting desperate. Rumors and speculation around the team are growing and it is not clear what will happen, but change appears to be coming.
Bruins reporter Jimmy Murphy revealed that the Bruins have been in communication with the Utah Hockey Club and the Anaheim Ducks, presumably about trade options. He specifically named Trevor Zegras, but that is just speculation.
"However, another NHL source claimed that the Bruins were also talking to the Utah Hockey Club and the Anaheim Ducks. With regards to the latter, one player who is once again looking like he may be on the way out in Anaheim is forward Trevor Zegras, who is off to a putrid start (1g, 2a, 14 games), and just can't seem to buy into the aggressive forecheck and two-way system that Ducks head coach Greg Cronin wants him to play in."
It is not exactly clear what is going on in Boston right now but they are certainly the number one team to keep an eye on as we could see big changes in the coming days. Will Jim Montgomery be fired? Will they trade for a center? Is it too late to save the season? Stay tuned to find out.
