REPORT: THE NHL RELEASES STATEMENT REGARDING IVAN PROVOROV'S REFUSAL TO WEAR PRIDE JERSEY

The other night something happened that set social media ablaze with reactions.

The Philadelphia Flyers were hosting their 'Pride Night' so the entire team went onto the ice with rainbow jerseys, all except for one. refused to wear the pride jersey so he was not on the ice for warmups.

After the game he was asked about his decision, which he responded:

«I respect everybody and I respect everybody's choices. My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion.»

The National Hockey League has taken a big stance on making the league a very fair and welcoming sport, so people were eager to see what they would say on the situation.

Here is the announcement from the NHL:

"Hockey is for Everyone is the umbrella initiative under which the League encourages Clubs to celebrate the diversity that exists in their respective markets, and to work to achieve more welcoming and inclusive environments for all fans. Clubs decide whom to celebrate, when and how with League counsel and support. Players are free to decide which initiatives to support, and we continue to encourage their voices and perspectives on social and cultural issues."
