REPORT: Islanders trying to trade former 70 point scorer to make room for Nazem Kadri

In a contract season, Nazem Kadri could not have asked for a better year. He set career high in points and was on pace for well over 100 points if it were not for injury. To cap off a career year in points, Kadri now has a stanley cup on his resume as well.

When Free Agency started on July 13th, Kadri was ranked as the second best player available, and to much surprise as of this morning Kadri was still yet without a contract.

According to two sources now, the Islanders have agreed to a contract with Kadri, but need to free up space before making it official.

Stefen Rosner of NYI Hockey Now reported that they are trying to find a trade partner to get Joshua Bailey off the books.

I can confirm that as of today, Josh Bailey and his $5 million are being shopped. Bailey, 32, has two years left on his deal.

That does not mean Bailey moves, but given his cap hit, it makes the most sense to get Kadri to Long Island.

Bailey is 32 years old and is a former 70 point scorer. Last season he scored 14 goals and 44 points.
