Pittsburgh Penguins feel they lost because of this stupid rule

The Pittsburgh Penguins were heading into the big Apple for a winner take all game seven vs the New York Rangers. After jumping into a 3-1 series lead the Penguins had one last shot do or die chance and unfortunately this game had some controversy after Penguins Marcus Pettersson had his helmet pulled off by Alexis Lafreniere. Pettersson had to go to the bench for the helmet rule causing the Rangers Mika Zibanejad the opportunity to tie the game beating Tristan Jarry and force overtime.

Penguins Goalie Tristan Jarry essentially called the rule, ''unnecessary'' Captain Sidney Crosby called it, ''a terrible rule.''
Head coach Mike Sullivan didn't mince words when asked about the NHL rule, which requires a player to replace his helmet immediately or exit the ice if his helmet comes off a rule many players seem to hate.

It's also a penalty to intentionally pull a player's helmet off, just as it's a penalty to play without it. The rule dramatically changed the game in the Rangers favour.

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan believes his team got screwed saying:

«I think it stinks. He has to come off. His helmet got pulled off intentionally by a Rangers player but that's the rule. It sucks to have that be the reason our season is over this way. The feeling behind the bench was that we were in control of the game. We were playing on our toes. We were playing the game the right way. But that's hockey, I guess.»

Officials did not penalize Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere, who clearly grabbed Marcus Pettersson's helmet. The incident occurred away from the play but you feel bad to see something like that after such a great series of hockey, granted the Penguins had a 3-1 series lead Penguins fans have to feel robbed on this situation.

The Rangers broadcast described the incident,
«As Pettersson exits the ice, the Penguins lost their structure, and Mika Zibanejad took advantage.»
