NHL Insider believes he knows the real reason PK Subban retired
It's been a few weeks now since the former Norris winning PK Subban announced his retirement from the NHL at the young age of 33. The veteran played in over 834 games and registered 467 points, falling a few seasons short of that 1000 game milestone.
Subban played his last few seasons in the New Jersey Devils organization, where he somewhat became forgotten about in the league, except when you would see slew-footing highlights.
The 33 year old believed he still had a lot to offer an NHL team, but it was said after his retirement announcement, that the veteran only wanted to play on the Toronto Maple Leafs, or the team that originally drafted him, the Montreal Canadiens.
It was rumored also that no team was interested in him at all, not just the two teams he was apparently interested in.
The Cam and Strict Podcast breaks down the retirement announcement and it basically all came down to:
Somebody would've signed him, if he could still play
So teams just don't think Subban has what it takes to be in the NHL anymore.
