Patrick Kane might not have so a very high signing value
In an appearance on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio, NHL insider Dave Pagnotta shared some thoughts on the Patrick Kane situation.
Pagnotta was asked where he thought Kane would end up as he is rumoured to be making his decision in the next week or two. He said that he spoke to a few people about it and Buffalo and Dallas are still the "usual suspects" for a potential destination for the future hall of famer.
He mentioned there are other teams such as the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, and Carolina Hurricanes that might also be interested. However, Pagnotta explained that there might be some hesitation to sign him because it's unlikely that Kane will be playing at the level that we're all accustomed to seeing him playing at.
Not many teams have cap space for him
Kane is expected to get between $4-5 million on a one-year deal when he ultimately sign with a team. As of right now, there are only six teams in the NHL that have more than $4 million of cap space. They include Detroit, Columbus, Nashville, Anaheim, Buffalo, and Chicago.
Detroit and Buffalo were mentioned above as possible destinations and they have the cap space to pull it off. However, it's highly unlikely that Kane will opt to go to any of the other teams with cap space. If a team like the Panthers or Maple Leafs wants to sign him they'll have to create cap space by trading away a player or two to make room.
