BREAKING: EDMONTON OILERS NEARING TRADING FOR A NEW GOALTENDER
JUL 5, 2022 (8H11) RYAN
Mike Smith recently stated that he intends on spending the final year of his contract on Long-Term Injured-Reserve, and with Mikko Koskinen already signing in a different league, the Oilers are in desperate need of a goalie.
According to The Athletic's Arthur Staple, the Edmonton Oilers are heavily pursuing New York Rangers backup Alex Georgiev to be their next starting goalie. The only thing stopping the trade from occurring right now is that the New York Rangers want a 'blue chip prospect' and the Oilers don't want to give that up.
Georgiev had a rough season last year only putting up a .898 save percentage through 33 games, but over his career he has proven he is capable of being an NHL goaltender when he plays. His career stats are: 58-49-11 .909SV% & 2.93GAA.
A change of scenery will definitely benefit this goaltender to help find his old form. Are the Rangers pricing themselves out of a trade with their backup goalie? Or will Ken Holland make another poor trade anyways?
